I speak computer.

Shayan Ostadhassan — programmer and systems architect. Tehran, remote. Thirty years from Commodore machine code to the app on your phone.

About

I'm Shayan. I started programming at seven — BASIC on a Commodore 64, then its machine code, then C++ on DOS by the time I was twelve. I never really found a reason to stop.

For over a decade I led development of Windows endpoint-security software: NDIS kernel drivers, network-firewall services in C and C++, the build infrastructure that held it together, and a review of every line that went in. Before that there were ATM device drivers, large-scale graph algorithms, and a stretch of full-stack web work for companies in the UK and Australia.

These days I mostly build for the web and mobile — Next.js and Flutter — and I take projects from the first sketch to production. Usually that's just me; sometimes it's me and a designer or photographer I've worked with for years.

Away from the keyboard I'm a gamer and a heavy movie-watcher, and I'll take most things apart at least once to see how they work.

Skills

Fifteen years of C and C++ later, I still like the web.

Systems

C and C++ on Windows — kernel drivers (NDIS), system services, hooking, IPC. Over a decade on endpoint security, most recently as head developer and the person who reviewed everything before it shipped. Reverse engineering on x86 and ARM. Two older ones I can name: device drivers for ATM hardware, and a single executable that used the .NET profiler to inject a Persian calendar across the entire SharePoint interface.

Web

Next.js and React, PHP and Laravel, .NET Core. PostgreSQL and MySQL. I've built a B2B platform with its own CMS, CRM and media library, and a right-to-left storefront with real payment integration — both end to end.

Mobile

Flutter for Android and iOS, and Flame for games. Offline-first apps on a local database; a published idle game. Native macOS in Swift when a project needs it.

Also

Hardware — ATmega, ESP, and PIC assembly. Linux and build infrastructure. Networking to CCNA/CCNP level. English fluently, Persian natively, and enough Japanese, French and Arabic to get by.

Right now I want to be building in Next.js or Flutter.

SDM, a macOS download manager in Swift, and c64util, for pulling games off Commodore tapes — both at github.com/ShayanOH.

BSc in Applied Mathematics, Shahid Beheshti University. Honourable mention at the ACM ICPC World Finals, 2006.

Delibon Iran — screen

RTL storefront + admin · solo build · Next.js

Delibon Iran

The full Persian side of the brand — a right-to-left storefront and the back office that runs it. Customers get a real checkout, with Iranian payment rails (installment purchase included) behind a pluggable adapter. The team gets a block-based CMS, a customer list, role-based access, and their own controls for shipping, tax and payment gateways. The job queue runs on PostgreSQL instead of a separate broker, and the whole thing ships as a Docker image to Liara — the same stack and host as this site. I built all of it, from the schema to the deploy.

Delibon International — homepage

B2B showcase · solo build · Next.js

Delibon International

A showcase site for a premium date exporter — a curated catalogue and an inquiry form, nothing to buy. Behind it, a Turborepo monorepo: pre-rendered public pages, a block-based CMS and media library so the team can rewrite any page themselves, and a simple inbox for the inquiries that come in. I did the design, the build and the deploy.

Karkhooneh / Idle Factory — screen

mobile game · solo build · Flutter + Flame

Karkhooneh / Idle Factory

An idle game about growing a factory: tap a machine to rush it, hire crews to run it for you, expand across isometric industry zones as the place gets busier. My first real game — built with Flutter and Flame, in Persian and English.

Sakena — app screen

building-management app · solo build · Flutter

Sakena

Dues, expenses, residents, the building fund, and printable financial reports — fully offline, on a local database. My first Flutter app; a building in Tehran runs on it.

Flutter · Drift (offline) · Persian calendar · PDF reports — in private use

SDM / Shayan's Download Manager — app window

macOS download manager · solo build · Swift

SDM / Shayan's Download Manager

The native macOS download manager I went looking for and couldn't find, so I started writing it. Segmented multi-connection transfers, resume that survives a crash or a force-quit, and YouTube through the same engine as everything else. It watches the clipboard and probes every link for the things a status code won't tell you — an `.mp4` that's really a 2 KB error page, a redirect that lands on a login — then groups what it finds into packages. Swift and SwiftUI, menu-bar first. Still being built, in the open.

Approach

I take projects end to end.

If something's hard, or built on something I haven't used yet, that's usually why I said yes. I've led a team, and I've spent a lot of time reading other people's code — including picking up projects that stalled and getting them shipped.
